Dramatherapy
About Dramatherapy
Knowledge is within every person from the moment of being born. With the passing of events that occur during life, this experience of Knowledge is lost, as various traumatic experiences come along that cause the person to forget (lithi).
Psychotherapy in general, as well as drama therapy, aims to slowly bring back this experience of Knowledge to the individual and through a safe framework to illuminate this truth, which is unique to each and every individual.
Specifically, drama therapy, using tools such as the role, the mask, clay, painting, fairy tales and myths, aims to bring to the surface - through the aesthetic distance created through the aforementioned tools - material from the unconscious and bring it to a conscious level. It works non-directionally, which means that it follows the rhythms of each person and does not give 'quick solutions to problems', because the aim is for each person to take responsibility for themselves, which takes time.
Group and individual drama therapy
Dramatherapy can work on a group and individual level:
Group therapy:Each group process serves as an opportunity for self-awareness.The interaction with each person is unique and interacting with others in a safe context can reveal roles and aspects of how we relate that we are not aware of. The goal of group therapy is to bring us into the here and now, to observe the exact moment we are acting in the relationship and to let the group mirror all that is not easy to discover on our own, with honesty, support and respect for the need that each member brings.
Individual therapy:
Individual therapy has at its core the dual relationship. It begins with an initial meeting between the therapist and the person being treated where the rules to be followed during the therapy are briefed and, after agreement, a history is taken and a joint therapeutic "contract" is drawn up, which ensures a secure framework on which the therapeutic relationship is built. The duration of treatment is also jointly agreed in the treatment contract.
*Allow for the term treated. It is not a weakness to be a healer. Rather, it is about people who have the courage and fortitude to approach the difficult parts of themselves, their Shadow, and embrace them with honesty.
What is the role of the (drama) therapist?
The role of the therapist (like the yoga teacher) is to accompany the clienton the journey of awareness, to support him when he realizes that this is his need, to let him support himself when he is ready, and to let him experience life by stepping on his own feet, making choices for his life, taking responsibility for himself, restoring a sense of trust in himself and in life.
A few words about Emiliana:
She was trained at Herma, a psychotherapy and dramatherapy & playtherapy training center which follows the standards of the European Association of Psychotherapy (EAP), following a 4-year specialization in drama therapy. She has attended seminars by renowned drama therapists such as Sue Jennings, Richard Hougham, Susana Pendzik, Brenda Meldrum, Katerina Robertson and others. She has facilitated short term drama therapy groups and individual drama therapy sessions.
She focuses on the connection between the body and the soul, the power of the roles and sub-roles we bring into our lives and believes that drama therapy can be transformative in the process of this observation, through finding new roles, new patterns and through the creativity it involves.
